How to make it easier for a florist to care for indoor plants

Any enthusiastic florist sooner or later comes to such a moment when the space of the apartment begins to be sorely lacking for further expansion of the existing collection. As they say, appetite comes with eating. So it is with flowers: if you are already carried away, they have taken possession of your heart, then this is serious and for a long time. And most of the time, forever.

Now every new purchase turns into a puzzle: where should I put it? Solid collections reach such sizes that without a catalog one can get lost in the names. And the irrigation operation turns into a real trip through the home jungle. In such circumstances, it is possible to miss someone and leave without watering and proper care, which will lead to undesirable consequences.

To avoid such unnecessary problems, you should soberly assess the capacity of the apartment and your own physical capabilities from the very beginning. After all, there is nothing worse than unkempt flowers, dragging out a miserable existence and causing negative emotions in others. First of all, you need to remember: it is impossible to grasp the immensity! There are tens of thousands of magnificent, dazzlingly beautiful plants in the world, but it is simply unrealistic to collect them on your windowsill. Most flower growers do not have the opportunity to have a spacious greenhouse specially designated for this purpose.

Therefore, you need to think very carefully before purchasing a new plant: is there a place for it; can you provide him with the necessary microclimate and care regimen. After all, plants should bring us only positive emotions from contemplating their beauty, and not cause irritation, which will inevitably arise when there is a desperate lack of time and opportunities for full-fledged care. In this case, it is better to immediately abandon the purchase and courageously walk past the flower shop, beckoning with exotic gifts.

How do you plan your plant care operations so that they do not become a burden, but only bring pleasure?

The main rule of a florist is to check your pets every day. For someone who truly loves them, this is only a joy, and he does such an operation even more than once a day. With such an examination, it would be good to have a watering can with you in order to water those plants that need it at the same time. Then you don't have to set aside additional time for watering. By the way, it is recommended to water the plants in the winter in the morning, and in the summer in the evening. If a withered or dried leaf is found, it must be removed immediately, not put off for later. Somewhere you need to loosen the soil, somewhere to wipe up spilled water. All this must be done immediately upon detection, during the inspection. Such mini-cleaning does not require much effort and allows you to maintain the beauty of plants, cleanliness in the place where they are kept and save your own time.

But what about top dressing, because all plants are different, and their fertilization regime does not coincide? To do this, you need to create a feeding calendar for yourself, where you can mark the dates. Moreover, if there are a lot of plants, it is better not to feed everything in one day. For example, today we breed fertilizer for flowering plants and feed them, marking them on the calendar. Tomorrow we will set aside time for feeding decorative deciduous. Thus, no one will be deprived, everyone is fed in accordance with the requirements of care, and the likelihood of forgetting about feeding is reduced to zero.

Transplanting into fresh soil in spring can also be simplified. To do this, you need to conditionally divide the plants into groups that need the same soil mixture. And then we do the following. In one day, we prepare one soil mixture and transplant the corresponding plants. The next day, we prepare the second recipe for the soil mixture and transplant the next group, etc. Thus, the hard work of the transplant turns into a quick and uncomplicated event.

And one more piece of advice from experienced florists. Do not try to remember what you can write down, do not clog your memory with unnecessary information. Get a notebook for such notes, and life will be much easier! Write down everything about your plants, from the names, short rules of care to the dates of sowing seeds and the timing of germination. Each pot should be provided with a label where you indicate the name, age of the plant, the date of the last transplant.

Plants, full of health and pleasing to the eye with fresh greens and flowers, extinguish negative emotions. The pleasure of daily communication with them is the key to a stable good mood. Good luck to everyone, and let the flowers in the house give only joy!

Houseplant care equipment

Houseplant care equipment

The set of equipment, fixtures and fittings for growing indoor plants in the room includes: a small scoop or a sapper spatula, sieves for sifting soil and fertilizers, a children's rake with a short handle, a fork for loosening the soil, a small hoe and a watering can with a strainer with a capacity of no more than 5 liters ...

Of course, among the equipment for your indoor garden should be a hand sprayer or spray gun, with which you can humidify the air and protect plants from pests and diseases.

For the preparation of mixtures of fertilizers, it is recommended to purchase small scales and weights for them and glassware in which the prepared fertilizers will be located. In addition, when growing indoor plants, you should definitely have a pruner, a garden knife and plasticine to cover up the wounds on the plant when pruning.

The inventory for caring for flower plants that you have is quite suitable for caring for vegetables and fruit crops. To grow vegetable and flower seedlings, you need to purchase or make yourself various types of boxes, containers, ceramic or peat pots. They must be breathable and have good drainage.

Use glass or enamel containers to prepare spray solutions. For watering crops, you should have a children's watering can with a fine strainer with a volume of 0.75-1 l. When preserving varietal planting or seed material, you can use labels made of plastic cups - the inscriptions made on them with a simple pencil remain for a whole year.

It has long been believed that a window sill is the best place to place indoor plants. Indeed, the plants on it receive the most light, air, and often heat. In many apartments, indoor plants are placed on the windowsills - in the living room, bedroom, dining room and even in the kitchen. In order for the plants not to stand crowded and not interfere with each other, it is recommended to expand the window sill towards the room and slightly insulate it by placing a polystyrene cover or a board according to its size on it.

When arranging indoor plants, the main task is to skillfully place them in such a way that light-loving plants are closer to the glass and on the southern window, and more unpretentious ones on the eastern, western and even northern windows. It is recommended to purchase or make yourself beautiful coasters, which can not only be placed on the windowsill, but also fixed on the walls near the windows. For growing planting material in room conditions, you can make unpretentious greenhouses with subsoil heating with your own hands. Light and thermal conditions can be most fully created in window mini-greenhouses, which are sold in specialized stores.

One of the simplest ways to increase air humidity is to install a box (best of all galvanized or plastic) along the width and length of the window sill, into which fine gravel or coarse sand is poured, a small amount of water is poured and pots with plants are placed. You can humidify the air by spraying water from a spray bottle.

An ideal place for growing plants, including vegetable crops (especially in the autumn and early spring periods), are slightly heated glazed verandas, loggias, terraces, a winter garden or a light greenhouse. The greenhouse can be made by yourself in accordance with the configuration of your premises, and it is best for a master to perform special work. It is recommended to equip glazed rooms with a ventilation and irrigation system, and, if necessary, to preserve heat, use additional film covers. To protect plants from short-term night frosts or overheating in the daytime, especially in spring, it is necessary to construct lifting curtains or mats.

To provide the plants with the maximum light regime on the windows, glazed verandas, it is recommended to make collapsible shelves and multi-level racks on which pots or boxes with seedlings will be installed. On their lower tier, you can place planted cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants.

For growing and forcing plants that do not require a lot of light, or for forcing onions, celery and similar crops, shelves or racks are installed in dark places of the apartment, far from heating sources.

How to avoid mistakes

Before buying any indoor plant, you should first familiarize yourself with the information about it: the rules of care, strengths and weaknesses, how much space, light and water you need, how it gets along with other plants. And then decide if it is possible to do all this on a regular basis. Plants cannot wait when they are forgotten to water, feed or transplant - they die.

At the time of purchase, the plant must be carefully examined and its general condition must be assessed. The specimen must be healthy, free of plaque or specks.

The purchased plant must be correctly placed in the apartment, depending on its preferences (heat-loving, light-loving, or vice versa), and you also need to protect it from drafts.

Plants usually adapt quickly and easily to a living space, but only if the temperature values are suitable for it. Especially you need to carefully monitor the regime in winter, when plants suffer from dry hot air from batteries or cold on the windowsill.

It is necessary to water the plant, strictly following the recommendations of specialists. Also, do not forget about air humidification. Certain types of plants, for example, tropical, will begin to hurt and die from dry air.

The main points of care should also include:

  • maintaining a state of rest
  • correct and timely transplant
  • prevention of diseases and pests.

Before deciding to turn your home into a flower garden, you should evaluate not only your time and opportunities, but also the conditions. If you follow the rules for care, then the plants will delight the eye all year round.
